I visited this First Nations community in 2009. The reason for my visit was to re-introduce a man called Joe Ombash to his childhood home. Joe is blind, hard of hearing and intellectually challenged. He was taken from his home at a young age, as were his brothers and sisters, by the government. Because of his issues, Joe was placed in an institution located in Smith Falls, Ontario. He spent many years there and had only received two visits from family members. He was eventually placed in a home in Ottawa and I become his advocate through a local organization called Citizen Advocacy Ottawa. As his advocate, it was my responsibility to see that some of his wishes came through. Visiting his home was one of those wishes. We spent a week in Cat Lake and met long lost relatives and family members. Margaret is/was an elder at the time. Not sure where she is today (Dec. 2020).
